Eight of our classmates will be participating in the POSB Build and Protect our Home Contest 2011.
They will be constructing models of buildings in Singapore that they wish to protect.
We wish them all the best!
The following are the synopses of their projects:
Entry A: Changi Airport
1. HADJISOPHOCLEOUS EUGENE
2. ALOYSIUS AMOS LAU
3. MOHAMED ALI MOHAMED SHARIF
4. SIN REN XIANG
We would like to protect Changi Airport because it is the entry point of Singapore. Without the airport, it is very hard for people to travel long distances in and out of Singapore. Without an airport, we would have to use boats to travel. Therefore, the airport must be protected for the greater good of Singapore.
Entry B: Esplanade
1. RUEL PANG JING YOUNG
2. ABEL LOH FU MING
3. LEE ZHENG YAO, DANIEL
The Esplanade is the place I choose to build. I choose The Esplanade because it was where I first met my cousin from America and we had a great time there, and not only is the place classy, its design is really awesome! So, I really think it will be great for a model. The Esplanade is also shaped as a durian and that's Singapore's most popular fruit. My family and friends love durians so I will hate to see it being demolished. The shape and design is really beautiful so I think this is the best place to use as a model.
Entry C: St Lourdes' Church (1888-present)
1. GERARD JONATHAN GURUMURTHY
Built in the year 1888, the church is going to become 123 years old. The church is selected by the Singapore Heritage Board as a monument. The people who designed that church were French. In the year 1888, the church was built in a swamp. However, over the years, the church and its surroundings have evolved.
I like this church because of its unique architectural design. Just recently, the church went through a massive renovation. My father built a huge water feature in the church.
Today, the church stands tall and I think that Singapore should keep this church.
